What is The Celebrant Guild?

The Celebrant Guild is the UK's premier professional association for celebrants, providing credentials, community, and resources to elevate the art and profession of celebrancy. We offer structured membership tiers, comprehensive insurance, professional development, and access to The Celebrant Directory.

Who can join The Celebrant Guild?

Membership is open to trained celebrants who hold certification from a recognised celebrant training organisation. You may join in your own name or in the name of the business under which you trade, provided that this business represents you as an individual celebrant.

It is not permissible for a company or organisation that represents a group of celebrants to join as a single member. In these cases, each celebrant within that organisation must hold their own individual membership. Group or collective memberships are not eligible for insurance, and any celebrants attempting to join in this way will not be covered under The Celebrant Guild insurance policy.

What's the difference between The Celebrant Guild and The Celebrant Directory?

The Celebrant Directory is now an exclusive benefit of Guild membership, rather than a standalone service. All Guild members receive directory listings based on their membership tier, along with comprehensive professional support, community access, and ongoing development opportunities.

What are the membership tiers?

We offer two membership levels within The Celebrant Guild, allowing you to choose the level of support, visibility and professional development that suits your needs:

Core Member (£25/month):

Ideal for celebrants who want essential support, community and professional credibility. Core membership includes insurance cover, a directory listing, access to The Hive community, networking events and a library of practical templates to support your work.

Ultimate Member (£35/month):

Designed for celebrants who want maximum support, visibility and ongoing development. Ultimate membership includes everything in Core, plus enhanced directory exposure, monthly CPD and skills masterclasses, Guild Surgery support sessions, coaching and website discounts, and access to additional professional growth opportunities.

Both tiers give you access to a supportive celebrant community, with Ultimate providing the highest level of training, exposure and business support.

What are the requirements for each tier?

Both membership tiers are open to trained celebrants who are ready to work professionally.

To join either Core or Ultimate membership, you simply need to have completed celebrant training or have relevant professional celebrancy experience.

There are no experience thresholds or ceremony number requirements to access either tier. Instead, you choose the level of support, visibility and professional development that best suits where you are in your celebrant journey.

Whether you are newly qualified or already established, you are welcome to join at the tier that fits your needs.

Can I upgrade my membership tier?

Yes. You can upgrade your membership at any time if you would like access to additional benefits, visibility and professional development opportunities.

Can I downgrade my membership tier?

Yes. You can downgrade your membership at any time if you feel a different level of support better suits your current needs.

Any changes will usually take effect from your next billing cycle, and our team is always available to help if you need assistance making the change.

The Hive Community

What is The Hive?

The Hive is our vibrant member community where celebrants connect, share resources, seek advice, and support each other. It's available 24/7 and includes specialty channels, regional groups, and regular networking events.

How active is The Hive community?

The Hive buzzes with daily activity, from script reviews and business advice to celebration of member wins. We host weekly themed discussions, monthly networking sessions, and regular "Get Unstuck" surgery sessions.

Can I connect with celebrants in my area?

Yes! The Hive includes regional channels where you can connect with local celebrants for meetups, collaboration, and mutual support. Many members arrange coffee meetings and ceremony shadowing opportunities.

Directory & Visibility

How does The Celebrant Directory listing work?

Your membership includes a listing on The Celebrant Directory, helping couples and families find and contact you for ceremonies.

Your profile allows you to showcase your services, experience, location, images and contact details so potential clients can enquire with you directly.

The level of exposure depends on your membership tier: Core Members receive a listing covering one country and up to five service locations. Ultimate Members receive expanded visibility across multiple countries and locations, along with priority homepage exposure in search results.

You manage your own profile, update your details at any time, and receive enquiries directly from couples or families searching for a celebrant in your area.

How quickly will my listing go live?

Your directory profile will be live once you've activated it with your special activation code. You can then personalise it with photos, testimonials, and detailed service information.

Can I update my listing myself?

Yes! You have full control over your directory profile through your member dashboard on www.thecelebrantdirectory.com directly, allowing you to update photos, descriptions, availability, and contact information at any time.

Insurance Coverage

Who is covered by the insurance?

All affiliated members of The Celebrant Directory Ltd, trading as The Celebrant Guild, are included as additional insureds under our comprehensive group policy, provided they are resident in the United Kingdom.

When does my cover start and end?

Your cover begins as soon as your Guild membership is active and continues until the end of the current policy period (1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026), provided your membership remains valid. Cover is renewed each year when the policy is renewed.

What insurance coverage is included?

Professional Indemnity Insurance

Limit: £1,000,000 per claim
Excess: £1,000
Geographical scope: Worldwide (excluding USA/Canada)
Covers: Professional negligence, breach of confidentiality, defamation, infringement of intellectual property rights, dishonesty by employees or subcontractors, professional disciplinary proceedings, personal data claims (up to £250,000)

Public & Products Liability

Limit: £5,000,000 per claim
Excess: £250 (property damage only)
Geographical scope: United Kingdom and European Union only
Covers: Bodily injury or property damage to third parties, defamation and infringement of intellectual property rights (up to £1,000,000), limited pollution cover

Legal Protection

Limit: £100,000 per claim (or series of events from the same cause)

Excess: £500 for contract disputes where the amount in dispute exceeds £5,000

Geographical scope: United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, and for certain covers, the European Union and selected European countries

Covers: Legal defence, property protection, personal injury, tax protection, contract disputes, and debt recovery

Crisis Containment

Limit: £25,000 per crisis

Geographical scope: United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, and Republic of Ireland

Covers: Public relations and crisis management support in the event of a situation that could cause significant damage to your reputation

What activities are not covered by the policy?

Your policy does not cover:

- Work in the USA or Canada

- Criminal, dishonest, or deliberate acts

- Certain pollution incidents (only limited cover is provided)

- Personal accidents or illness (unless you have separate personal accident cover)

- Damage to your own property or equipment

How do I access my insurance certificate?

Your insurance certificate is available immediately in The Hive, under the “Learning” section. This is a group certificate. If you need a personalised version with your name, please email [email protected].

How do I make a claim?

If something happens that might lead to a claim:

1. Notify us immediately by emailing [email protected].

2. Do not admit liability or agree to pay damages.

3. Keep records and evidence of the incident.

We will guide you through the claims process.

Professional Development

What CPD opportunities are available?

Guild members have access to monthly CPD sessions, creative workshops, business masterclasses, and our annual Guildfest event. Ultimate members receive enhanced CPD access and discounted event tickets.

Do you offer one-on-one coaching?

Yes! All members receive discounts on individual coaching sessions with experienced celebrant mentors. Ultimate members receive 10% discount.

What resources are included?

Members have access to comprehensive template libraries including contracts, ceremony frameworks, client questionnaires, and business documents. The level of access varies by membership tier.

Billing & Administration

Technical Support

How is membership billed?

You can choose monthly (£25/£35/£45) or annual billing (£250/£350/£450) with annual billing offering two months free. Payments are processed automatically, and you can update your billing information in your member dashboard.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as direct debit for UK members. International members can pay via credit card or PayPal.

Can I pause or cancel my membership?

You can cancel your membership at any time by giving 30 days’ notice. To cancel, please follow the steps below:

1. Log in to The Hive here: https://hub.thecelebrantguild.com/communities/groups/hive/home

2. Select your profile in the top right-hand corner

3. Choose Manage Account, then Billing & Subscription

4. Enter the verification code sent to your email address. You will then be able to cancel your membership

At present, memberships cannot be paused.

What happens to my directory listing if I cancel?

Your directory listing will be removed within 48 hours of membership cancellation. However, you can rejoin at any time and your profile information will be retained for 12 months.

Special Circumstances

I'm a current Celebrant Directory member - what happens to me?

Current The Celebrant Directory members are automatically grandfathered into the Guild for 6 months at no additional cost. LITE members become Core members, FLY & MAX members become Ultimate members during the transition period.

What will happen to my membership of The Celebrant Directory?

As a member of The Guild you shall continue to remain a member of The Celebrant Directory.

Can international celebrants join?

Absolutely! While some benefits (like certain insurance coverage) are UK-focused, international celebrants are welcome and receive full community access, international directory listings, and relevant professional development opportunities.
